How to Make a Submission     back to top

Interested in becoming a StockShop photography contributor?
We've outlined all the basics including who, what, when, where, and why to get you up to speed!

Who: StockShop is a boutique agency that was founded on the premise that not everybody wants to shop at a big box store. Our mission is to provide advertising and design firms with fresh ideas and different perspectives through our exclusive and unique imagery.

What: We are looking for model released lifestyle and travel images - but with a twist. Ideally, the photograph would incite copy or make people think. Above all, we do not want our images to look like stock. Composition and lighting can make an image stand out in the submissions crowd. Highly conceptual images and/or images with generic appeal (can be used to market several types of products or services) have tremendous appeal. "What's Hot" now are images that highlight active baby boomers, gen x and their families, emphasize the trend toward organic and green, and represent ethnic diversity.

When: As soon as possible!

Where: Initial images should be low res JPEGs (72 dpi, 4" x 6"). Please send at least 50 images and no more than 100. You can send a zip file to info@stockshop.com or upload the images to our FTP site. Please e-mail info@stockshop.com if you need our ftp instructions.

Due to market drivers and the costs of posting, it is possible that not all your images will be selected. Once your images have been edited, you will need to provide us with high resolution files of any accepted images. These files can be uploaded to our ftp.

Please review our checklist of file requirements for accepted images to ensure your high resolution files meet the standards and are properly prepared before sending them to us.

Why: Photographers receive 50% of the licensing fee.

Fine Print: We require an image-exclusive agreement; which means that any images or similars that you provide us may not be posted on another site (with the exception of your personal website). Model releases for any recognizable people and property releases are crucial and must be provided.

Please call 866.663.1153 (toll free) or email info@stockshop.com if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing your work!

Model and Property Release Standards     back to top

All recognizable people require model releases.

Large crowd scenes, where no individual or group of individuals are the focus of the shot and therefore the likelihood of digital isolation by end user is unlikely, may be accepted into the collection without model releases.

All private homes, inside and out, require property releases.

Skylines, including both urban and rural settings, are acceptable.

Exteriors of most individual commercial buildings are acceptable if taken from a public place, excluding visible addresses or signage.

Interiors of commercial buildings require a property release if the photograph makes the business recognizable.

Property releases are required for artwork including graffiti.

Metadata Information     back to top

In real estate, it's location, location, location. In stock photography, it's metadata, metadata, metadata. This vital tool encompasses everything from copyright status, model and property release status and key information that can make the difference between your image being licensed and someone else's: the who, what, when, where and why. Although we have experienced keywording professionals, they need the facts about the image in order to do the best possible job. We know many photographers are unsure where or how to enter metadata. Therefore, we have outlined the standard procedure for completing the various metadata fields in Photoshop, Aperture and Lightroom. Information entered into any fields other than those mentioned will not translate to our website.
